Marksmen fall at home to RYD

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.- The Fayetteville Marksmen, proud members of the Southern Professional Hockey League, lost to the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 4-1 at the Crown Coliseum on Friday night.

After a first period saw Stefano Durante turn away 12 Rail Yard Dawgs shots, the Marksmen opened the scoring on an early-second period power play goal from Bryan Moore.

Moore has now scored in three straight games for the Marksmen and in seven of his last eight as a Marksmen.

However, that is where the scoring would stop. Josh Nenadal capitalized on a deflected Travis Armstrong shot to tie the game.

Less than 90 seconds later, C.J. Stubbs snuck one through the legs of Durante to put the Rail Yard Dawgs ahead for good.

At 10:39 into the second period, Vojtech Zemlicka fired a shot that deflected through the legs of Durante and Billy Vizzo finished into the back of the net. Durante was pulled for Matt Williams to make his professional debut at 10:39 in the second after allowing three goals on 15 shots.

Roanoke would add one more from Matt O’Dea just 1:16 into the third period after a drive by Mac Jansen drew Williams out of the net.

The Rail Yard Dawgs are the first team to defeat Fayetteville three-straight times this season and now have the season series lead 5-4.

Fayetteville remains in fourth place in the SPHL, but Roanoke has closed the gap to just three points, the closest the two teams have been all season.

The two teams face off tomorrow in Roanoke at 7:05 p.m. You can follow the action on HockeyTV and the Marksmen Radio Network on marksmenhockey.com.
