Marksmen sweep Mayhem, win seventh straight

MACON, Ga. – The Fayetteville Marksmen swept the weekend series and won a season-high seventh straight game with a 4-2 final over the Macon Mayhem Saturday at the Macon Coliseum.

Fayetteville got the scoring started over 12 minutes into the first period when Grant Loven’s (9) shot deflected off a Macon player in front of the net. Dalton Hunter (16) and Tyler Kobryn (12) picked up the assists to give the Marksmen a 1-0 lead. The score held through 20 minutes, and the visitors headed to the intermission ahead.

Macon scored twice to jump ahead 2-1 at 14:35, but Fayetteville soon answered. With just over a minute left in the frame, Tyler Barrow (4) tied the game at 2s from Cam Cook (20) and Matt Araujo (9).

Over halfway through the final period, former Mayhem Jamie Dorsey scored the eventual game-winning goal from Cook (21) and Barrow (10). John Moncovich (5) added insurance after angling a puck off a Macon defenseman from Connor Fries (8) and Araujo (10).

Ryan Kenny won his seventh straight start between the pipes and recorded 43 saves in the win

The Marksmen became the first SPHL team to have a seven-game win streak in the 2023-24 season and jumped the Birmingham Bulls for first place in the SPHL standings.

The Marksmen and the Bulls meet for three games at the Crown Coliseum January 19, 20 and 21.
