Marksmen Add Netminder, Bring Back Two Forwards

Fayetteville, N.C-  The Fayetteville Marksmen announced the signings of goalie Matt Zenzola and forwards Max Cook and Chris Porter, following release from tryout agreements with ECHL clubs, the team announced on Wednesday.

A native of San Diego, California, Zenzola comes to the Marksmen for his fifth season of professional hockey, after spending last season with the Pensacola Ice Flyers. In 41 games with the Ice Flyers, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound netminder posted 2.49 Goals Against Average, with a 91.1% save percentage on the campaign. In four games of President’s Cup Playoff action, Zenzola earned a 2.02 GAA to accompany his 93.2% save percentage.

The 24-year-old is no stranger to the SPHL, having suited up for the Louisiana IceGators in addition to the Ice Flyers. During the 2015/16 season, Zenzola earned Playoff MVP honors en route to winning the President’s Cup with Pensacola. In all, Zenzola has appeared in 94 career SPHL contests, with a 2.70 GAA and a 91.2% save percentage.

Zenzola has also appeared in five ECHL contests, all with the Jacksonville IceMen (formerly Evansville), and suited up for the Florida Everblades and Ontario Reign.

Cook rejoins the Marksmen for a second straight season, and for his fourth season of professional hockey. The 27-year-old has appeared in 121 SPHL games among four different teams (Peoria Rivermen, Columbus Cottonmouths, Mississippi RiverKings), and as notched 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists), including a personal best 24-point (11 goals, 13 assists) campaign last season.

Before joining the professional ranks, the 6-foot-2, 187-pound forward spent four seasons at Miami of Ohio University. In his time with the RedHawks (2010-14), Cook deposited seven goals and 16 assists in 111 games of action. Before joining the RedHawks, Cook played for the Green Bay Ramblers and the Indiana Ice of the USHL. During his first season with the Ice (2008-09) the team went on to win the Clark Cup, with current Detroit Red Wings Head Coach, Jeff Blashill, at the helm.

Porter returns to the Marksmen for his second straight season and for his third in professional hockey. Last season, Porter earned career-highs in goals (10), assists (16) and points (26) in 40 games of action with the Marksmen. He also spent nine games in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder, registering two assists in that time.
