Araujo Scores twice, Marksmen beat Ice Bears in OT

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Matt Araujo notched two goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Fayetteville Marksmen a 3-2 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears at the Crown Coliseum Saturday.

It didn’t take long for Fayetteville to get on the board as Araujo (3) scored just 35 seconds in to give the Marksmen a 1-0 lead. Cam Cook (18) and Tyler Barrow (5) set up Araujo’s first of the game. The Ice Bears responded nearly six minutes later and the 1-1 tie held into the intermission, despite Fayetteville outshooting Knoxville 18-9.

The Marksmen took back their lead halfway through the second period when Roman Kraemer (5) shoved in a rebound from John Moncovich (11) and Connor Fries (7). With a tenth of a second left in the middle frame, the Bears once again tied the game.

Fayetteville peppered Knoxville’s net in the third period, ending regulation up 55-26 in shots, but it would take overtime to settle the match. While on a powerplay, Araujo (4) rocketed in the game-winning goal from Barrow (6) and Simon Boyko (14) to cement the Marksmen win.
