FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville Marksmen, proud members of the SPHL, announced Kyler Head as the team’s captain on Friday ahead of their season opener against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.
Additionally, Ayodele Adeniye will be an alternate captain for the 2026-27 season. Alex Davis will be the third captain for Marksmen home games, and Shane Murphy will wear a letter during away games.
Head, 27, from Malone, N.Y., is entering his third season in the SPHL, all of them with the Marksmen after a career-high 27 points last season. “It is a true honor to wear the ‘C’ for this organization,” said Kyler. “The entire community and fanbase are so supportive and deserve a winning product on the ice. Our standard this year is simple; outcompete everyone, commit fully to the logo on our chest, and push each other to be our best. Thank you for the support, let’s get after it tonight!”
“Kyler first and foremost is an absolutely amazing human, and is all in with the standard of being a Marksmen,” said Head Coach Garrett Rutledge. “Kyler has been raised right and has a huge heart. To be able to be a first year coach in Fayetteville and have a captain of his stature is a honor and makes my job easy with his beliefs on and off the ice. I look forward to watching him flourish as our leader on and off the ice and for our city.”
Rutledge iterated support for the entire class of alternate captains as well, saying that “from day one Ayodele has been a person the younger guys and older guys can lean on for advice and preparation for the game. Ayodele brings everything you want in a leadership. Physicality presence, skill, Grit and overall a great person and a positive attitude, which speaks volumes of his character and up bringing.”
“Alex’s qualities make everyone around him a better person. Alex has worked very hard this off season and training camp and set himself up to help lead this team in a positive manner. I don’t think Alex has the word “no” in his vocabulary. He truly is what our organization is all about. Shane leads on and off the ice and for the fans, you can see his effort and determination nightly on the ice. These things don’t go unnoticed as it transfers to off the ice as well. Shane has been a tremendous support for myself when I was awarded the job and has engrained the standard from day one that the Marksmen stand by.”
Head, Adeniye, Davis, Murphy and the rest of the Marksmen take the ice for the first time this season tonight in Roanoke, before Opening Night presented by Jaggers against the Rail Yards Dawgs on Saturday, October 17 at 6 pm. Secure your tickets today at marksmenhockey.com
