Mayhem Cruise Past Marksmen

December 15, 2017

Macon, GA– The Macon Mayhem started strong and never took their foot off the gas, drubbing the Fayetteville Marksmen, 10-2, on Friday night at the Macon Centerplex.

It took just 14-seconds for the Mayhem to open the scoring. John Siemer popped home a shot from the left circle, over Kent Patterson, making it a 1-0 game.

Both teams settled in after the early goal, trading chances back and forth, until the Mayhem took on their first man-advantage of the night. A dump in from Daniel Echeverri took a wild bounce off the end boards and slid into the Marksmen net.

The onslaught continued, as the Mayhem took the 3-0 advantage, late in the first period. Jake Trask rifled a shot on net that Patterson tipped with the glove, but couldn’t get enough of it, as it popped up in the air and slowly rolled to the back of the net.

The middle frame offered no relief for the Marksmen, who surrendered three additional unanswered goals.

Stathis Soumelidis notched the fourth Mayhem goal, circling through the zone and pushing a wrister on net, past Peter Di Salvo, who entered the game in relief of Patterson. Trask took a powerful wrist shot while on a two-on-one, for his second of the night. The sixth Mayhem goal came off the tape of Stephen Pierog. Streaking into the zone, Seth Ronsberg pushed the puck towards the crease, where Pierog extended his stick to tip the puck past Di Salvo.

The shutout was finally broken, courtesy of Kyle McNeil for his 10th of the season. Finally finding some offensive pressure, Joe Kalisz entered the zone and found McNeil standing at the top of the circle, beating Greg Dodds over the blocker.

At the start of the third, the Mayhem made it a 7-1 game. While on a four-on-three power play, Echeverri found Caleb Cameron on the backdoor for the open net tally.

While on a power play chance midway through the third, the Marksmen knotted their second goal of the night. Cycling the puck around the zone, Jake Hauswirth found Bryan Dallaire at the point for a one-timer past Dobbs.

With an offensive zone faceoff to the right of Di Salvo, the Mayhem made it 8-2, midway through the third. Off the faceoff win, Paul Russell picked up the loose puck and tucked a tight-angled shot past Di Salvo.

Answering with a power play goal of their own, the Mayhem put home their ninth tally of the night. Working the puck along the half boards, Trask rocketed a shot towards the net that deflected off the tape of Siemer and to the back of the net.

Adding to their already impressive night, the Mayhem found their 10th goal of the night. Vincent Muto skated around the top of the zone, circled to his forehand and let loose a wrist shot, past Di Salvo.

Game Notes: This is the third time this season the Marksmen have allowed 8+ goals. Patterson made 13 saves on 16 shots, while Di Salvo stopped 15 of 22 shots he faced. The Mayhem went 3/6 on the power play, while the Marksmen went 1/2.
